Exploring DMARC
As we head into February, we’re encouraging our customers to evaluate their cyber-security strategy, because in today’s climate cyber-security has never been more important.
To put into perspective, already this year we’ve seen leading world-wide organisations becoming the victim to data breaches, including PayPal, T-Mobile, Royal Mail and Twitter (and we’re only 38 days in!).
Today’s blog aims to provide you with an insight into a solution called DMARC.
The likelihood that you are familiar with DMARC may not be high- in view of the fact, out of a collection of participants we surveyed, 75% had not heard of DMARC.
Let’s begin by understanding what is DMARC?
DMARC, which is the acronym for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance supports organisations in the battle against business email compromise- safeguarding both the email senders and recipients from spam- including domain spoofing…
More into domain spoofing:
To illustrate, you may or may not be aware that criminals can get hold of and use your corporate email, from this they can then send emails to anybody, anywhere in the world, including your customers, succinctly, feigning to be you.
What is more unbelievable is that the criminals can achieve this without even having to hack into your system.
So, how does DMARC help?
By turning DMARC on, it can make you significantly safer than what you are without turning it on, but probably more importantly, the probability of a hacker targeting your customers by pretending to be you is massively reduced.
How much will DMARC cost my organisation?
The answer is probably one that you’re not expecting, it’s FREE to turn DMARC on, you will inevitably have the expense of your IT department configuring, but in terms of cost, DMARC itself is free, however if you are interested in DMARC and would like our support in configuring please don’t hesitate to contact Data Installation & Supplies on 01274 869 099 or info@disnorth.com.
If you make the decision to turn on DMARC, you will be provided with a report at the end of every day, this report will provide you with the information of everybody who is (both legitimately and illegitimately) pretending to be you.
Throughout February and March we are going to be sharing insights into cyber security, before hosting live Webinar with our partner Node4 on Tuesday 21st March at 11:00am titled ‘Harnessing the Dark Web.’
