In the Christmas Spirit

We’re sure you’re in the Christmas spirit right now, with only a week to go before offices close for Christmas.

As a result, it’s probably accurate to say that your employees maybe taking things a bit steadier and more relaxed than usual.  Or maybe they just have a bit more time on their hands.

Now would be a great time to remind employees about their responsibilities towards safeguarding your business from hackers, furthermore reiterating guidelines.

These guidelines surround both the opening of and the responding to emails, not forgetting clicking on links embedded within them.

Scammers are becoming increasingly clever in the way in which they try to trick you into unwittingly allowing them access to networks.

With the run up to Christmas and the relaxed atmosphere, this provides them with an optimum time to strike.

Without fully intending to your employees could provide hackers with sensitive business information.

Information which could then allow access to not only your network, but to your databases and potentially bank accounts and emails.

How do they do this you may ask?

They do something called sending phishing emails, where in a nutshell they are ‘phishing’ for information.

Simply put, the hacker tries to trick you into revealing sensitive business information.

Information that can unfortunately be obtained from clicking links within and responding.

Some examples of Phishing Emails:

  • Suspicious activity detected, or unusual log in attempts
  • Payment information required
  • Payment unsuccessful
  • Sending fake invoices
  • Clicking links to make payments

As the tactics scammers use will continue to change regularly it’s important to educate your employees on what they need to be looking out for…

If you’re not confident that your employees are savvy enough to recognise an email scam, then why not make it your New Year’s resolution to contact us to discuss the benefits from our Simulated Phishing Campaigns.

We can also provide you with details into how they can support your organisation.

Furthermore, these campaigns can be tailored to be business specific, with a campaign that suits your business profile, either aimed at your full business, specific departments, or individuals.

Upon the email being deployed you can analyse your employee’s response to the email.  You’ll see if they have opened, clicked, or respond, before determining whether their actions could potentially risk your business security.
